Hazel was born in Edinburgh, and went to school and College in Scotland and England. Although she did study Art at school and Art History with Waterloo University, it was not until she moved to Naramata B.C. that she began seriously to paint. The main focus of her work is light, and the way that it interacts with the landscape. Although she has worked with the late Tony Only, amongst others, the greatest single influence on her work is the late Percival Ritchie, whose canvases exude light. Her life drawings and paintings are a legacy of the time spent drawing in Percy's studio. Visitors are welcome to browse through the paintings in her studio at 4865 N Naramata Rd. (just past Langedoc Rd.) |
